Have fun commenting and discussing Oliver Twist this weekend. LOL! -- Mr. Vilbig

It's so weird how different the Victorian Era is from today. There's almost no piece of mind from the middle class, all they think is whatever the other people think. They're so gulliable. I hated how Mr.Brownlow believed Mr. Bumble that Oliver was a bad kid. "Seeing is believing" should be Brownlow's life moral. Afterall, it WAS Brownlow who felt so deeply that Oliver was a good kid in the beginning. -__-

I liked when Nancy stood up for Oliver when Sikes threatened to have his dog attack him but I don't understand why she didn't stand up for him before. She basically brought him into trouble and is also taking him out of trouble now. If she didn't want Oliver to get hurt, why didn't she just protect him from the beginning?

What suprised me is Mr. Sikes level of contempt for everyone and everything. He treats his dog horribly, even Nancy who shows a glimmer of interest in his well being. He doesn't even care to kill a child, after he threatens to have his dog bit Oliver on the neck.Out of everyone in the gang, Sikes the only one who shows no humanity. Which begs the question, why do they all line up behind him?

I agree with Tasnim.
I really didn't like how Mr.Brownlow believed Mr.Bumble. If he believed that Oliver was a good kid in the first place.
It was real stupid of him to think of that; even though Brownlow only knew Oliver for a little while, you shouldn't judge the person from what other people say >:O

I agree with Tasnim.
I didn't like how Mr.Brownlow believed mr.Bumble about Oliver. When he did believe that he was a good kid at first.
That I thought was pretty dumb because you shouldn't judge someone from what other people say.

I agree with Stephanie on that. Exactly, if Mr. Brownlow ever thought that Oliver was actually not a young, homeless theif then he would've never had to second guess his judgement. When he made that bet with Mr. Bumble it just showed how much he didn't trust Oliver or believe in him and better yet, how he didn't believe his own judgement.

A character that is really making me think is Nancy. She does not seem as bad as the others, maybe she's a bit confused of who she is. Sometimes it seems as if she has a heart. I'm not saying she's not bad, but who knows.

Like Tasnim, Stephanie, and Emily have said, Mr. Brownlow shouldn't have believed Mr. Bumble. Mr. Bumble, Grimwig, and Sikes have horrible personalities. I don't like them, and probably never will =3. Bill Sikes is horrible because of the way he treats Bulls-eye and people in general; Mr.Grimwig and Mr. Bumble just annoys me.

I think Nancy is a confused character because she was bought up by Fagin in a really poor envirment where survival is hard. I thought it was couragous when she stood up for oliver.

I think that when Nancy was standing up for Oliver, she was sort of doing it for herself, too. Oliver was Nancy's last glimmer of hope. She didn't want him to end up only knowing a life of crime like she did. I admired Nancy in that moment because she had the courage to stand up to Bill Sikes and Fagin.

i find it odd that mr.brownlow was so trusting of oliver. After all, he lives in a city, he's not from the country,he should be more aware of the things around him. He did just see oliver with the people who tried to steal his wallet, so obviously oliver can't be coming from a good place. If anyone should be more trusting, it should be Oliver, which he is, rather than mr. brownlow

i acually disagree with how people are hating on mr.Brownlow because it's not like Oliver was his son or he was raised by him. Oliver was just a stranger that mr.Brownlow brought home because he felt sorry for him. Since mr.Brownlow lived in the city and didn't know the mischiefs kids got into, it would be likely of him to believe mr.Bumble because Oliver grew up with mr.Bumble. Mr.Brownlow figures that mr.Bumble knows better about Oliver so thats why he believed him.;]

I would have to say its really cruel of mr.Sikes because of his violence and abuse of childs and any living thing besides himself. Its like how the soviet in the Victorian era treated the society. It explains exactly how mr.Sikes is treating Oliver and his dog. I don’t get how he still doesn’t get caught after what kind of crimes he commits and all the abusing he does? I agree with Noelle because it really seemed that Nancy had a heart and she kind of cared. other than that if I were Oliver I would try to escape as soon as possible because Mr.Sikes is not the type of guy anyone can survive with not even for a minute.

I was surprised on how Nancy stood up for Oliver. It's nice to see someone actually helping Oliver out. Having Nancy trying to keep him away from crime, shows that she does care and is kind-hearted. -Venus

I agree with Beatrice when she says that it is brave for Nancy to stick up to Mr.Sikes and Fagin. I also do feel that she in a way is sticking up for herself because she doesn't want Oliver to live the life she did, and face all the troubles she face, which was shocking because I never felt that she felt this way.

I see the huge difference between the Victorian Era and now. To see the dehumanization and inhumanity of people during this time. I'm grateful to see that we don't live in that era. -Victoria
